United States outlasted Spain in the knockout stage of the 2019 Women's World Cup, winning the match 2-1 to advance to the quarter-finals. Spain had possession the majority of the time, and it looked like they might pull ahead. It was in the 42nd minute when Daebritz snagged a rebound, and pushed the ball over the line for the goal. Spain had a strong start in the first half of the match, but Germany gained momentum in the second half. This win made Germany unbeatable in their last 14 matches, which was the longest run of any team in France.
Spain defeats South Africa - Group Stage Match 1
Spain won its first of three group stage matches by beating South Africa 3-1 in the opening round of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in Paris, France. This was the first win by Spain in Women's World Cup history and South Africa's first appearance. Spain's Jennifer Hermoso turned in two goals with penalty kicks, one at the 69th minute to tie the game after South Africa's Thembi Kgatlana score in the 25th minute. And the second penalty goal came in the 82nd minute. Lucia Garcia scored the final goal for Spain at the 89th minute of play.
