Italy defeats Australia - Group Stage Match 1
Italy won its first group stage match by beating Australia 2-1 in the opening round of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in Paris, France. This was the first ever match-up in a Women's World Cup for Italy and Australia. Italy's Barbara Bonansea scored in the first 8 minutes but an offside call nullified the goal. At the 21st minute Australia's Sam Kerr missed a penalty kick but kicked it in on a second effort for her first ever World Cup goal. Bonansea stole the ball in the 55th minute and scored Italy's first. And Bonansea scored yet again from the far post at the 94th minute for the win.
